Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Q.
How does it work?

A.
Found a colour you like? Wonder what it is? Upload an image here, select the part of the image you want to match against, and we’ll match your colour against the thousands in our database. All you need to do is follow the links to purchase your colour from one of our partner’s websites.

Q.
How accurate is it?

A.
Obviously lighting conditions can affect the accuracy of your match, though if the lighting conditions are suitable, our algorithm is weighted to counter the effects of slight differences in light. Ensuring the match you receive is the closest to the paints available on the market.

Q.
Which brands are supported?

A.
We currently support eight brands of interior paint available in the UK, including the relevant sub-brands, and we’re constantly adding more. For now though, we support the product lines of:
- Craig & Rose
- Crown (including CRAFTED by Crown and ELLE Decoration)
- Dulux
- Farrow & Ball
- GoodHome (B&Q)
- Laura Ashley
- Valspar
- YesColours

Q.
Is outdoor paint supported?

A.
No. Well… not yet. We’re currently working on introducing the functionality of outdoor paint matching as it’s not quite as straightforward as interior paint. There’s much more to consider such as texture and lighting. If you want to stay in the loop about this, sign up for email updates here.

Q.
How do I choose a colour from an image?

A.
Once you’ve found the image of the paint you like, upload it to our colour selection page here and use your cursor or touchscreen to select the area of the image that contains the colour you want to match. Then simply click ‘Find a Paint!’ and we’ll do the rest.

Q.
What is a hex code?

A.
A hex (or, hexadecimal) code is one of the methods of representing colour on a spectrum of black to white. Using the numbers 0 - 9 and letters A - F there are over 16 million combinations represented by a 6-digit hex code. Each ‘pair’ of digits (so, ‘1A’), for example, represents the portion of red, green, or blue in the colour, which, when combined produces a colour which can be represented by screens, or in our case, paint!
